A Custom Orthosis, also known as a custom splint, is custom molded to the patient’s hand using a low temperature thermoplastic, removable, & serves to protect and minimize damage to the healing structures. The Hand & Digits are placed in a functional position, as the goal of these services is always to promote healthy, functional use of the hand and upper extremity. Why Custom Molded Splints? Custom Splints fit correctly, minimize pressure to the skin, and place the hand in the correct position for healing. This process prevents adverse incidents such as pressure ulcers, is more hygienic than other common materials, & allows greater participation in daily activities, such as using the computer, while healing.
