Finger sprains often require a custom solution.

Preventing excess side to side movements at the small joints in the fingers is a common application of custom splints for specific types of finger sprains. The splint pictured allows bending and straightening of the finger, but side to side movements are limited to allow functional healing.

What is a Custom Orthosis? A Custom Orthosis, also known as a custom splint, is custom molded to the patient’s hand using a low temperature thermoplastic, removable, & serves to protect and minimize damage to the healing structures. The Hand & Digits are placed in a functional position, as the goal of these services is always to promote healthy, functional use of the hand and upper extremity.

Why Custom Molded Splints? Custom Splints fit correctly, minimize pressure to the skin, and place the hand in the correct position for healing. This process prevents adverse incidents such as pressure ulcers, is more hygienic than other common materials, & allows greater participation in daily activities, such as using the computer, while healing.

Custom Splints are fabricated in a single appointment at Emerald Hills Hand Therapy, ready to take home that same day.

Comfort… is not a luxury, it’s a requirement. Edges smoothed, loops soft yet firm, thermoplastic perforated for air flow. These are basic Hand Therapy Principles ensuring Functionality.
